What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Technology has advanced to the point that it’s now medically safe to use in various forms of skin therapy, one of which is hair removal. The Laser light beam is very different from the ordinary light emitted from a source such as a flashlight. The Laser beam differs in that it is monochromatic (one concentrated wavelength or color), coherent (each photon particle is released at the same time), and directional (tightly concentrated). This intense, pulsating beam of light targets the dark pigment, melanin, in hair. As this beam is passed through the skin and strikes the hair root or follicle, the melanin and the follicle are destroyed. Not only does the Laser beam destroy the follicle, but it acts to inhibit re-growth of new hair. Regrowth may reoccur, not only from the original follicle that may produce a finer, thinner hair, but from adjacent follicles as well. This is why a true “hair-free” area takes more than one or two treatments to achieve.
